The Chariho and Westerly girls’ cross country teams are ranked ninth and 10th in the coaches poll announced by the Rhode Island Track & Field Foundation on Wednesday. Chariho (13 points) was not ranked in the previous poll and Westerly (12 points) had been ranked eighth. Barrington led the poll with 139 points and La Salle was second with 126.
The Chariho boys (48 points) are ranked seventh, in both this and the previous poll. Hendricken is first with 128 points, followed by La Salle (118) and East Greenwich (103).
Next week’s Chariho High football game at Portsmouth will be aired live on OSN (Cox Channel 5 and high definition 1005) on Friday at 7 p.m. It also will stream live at coxsportsonline. com. The Chargers host Warwick Vets tonight in a non-televised game at 7p.m.
Bill Duke shot 84 to win low gross honors in flight A in South Eastern New England Senior Golf Association play at Great Neck in Waterford on Thursday. This was a makeup of a rainout from last spring.
Jim Murano scored 72 in flight A for low net. A total of 69 players across all flights participated.
In flight B, Don Cimini shot low gross of 86 and Charlie Paindiris scored a low net of 73.
Tom Reynolds (94) took low gross in flight C and Eugene Leroy (75) had low net by match of cards.
Bill Welsh (96) and Bob Thibdeau (73) shot low gross and net in flight D.
In flight E, Howard Dunn shot 92 for low gross and George Dockery scored 72 for low net.
Arnold Cole (102) and Ed Stratton (74) had low gross and net in flight F.
