Bulldogs handle Chargers


WOOD RIVER JCT. — Third singles was all that stood between the Westerly High girls’ tennis team and a sweep of Chariho but the Bulldogs still won comfortably 6-1 Tuesday.

Westerly improved to 10-1 overall and in Division II Suburban B with the Division II crossover win.

Michaela Burr stayed perfect (13-0) with a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles.

Lani Koppermann won 6-3, 6-4 in second singles and Lana Gunn took third singles 6-1, 6-2.

Jessica Moorehouse provided Chariho’s only win at third singles, 6-4, 6-1.

Emily Palma and Renee Cordio won in top doubles 6-1, 6-1. Margo Douglas and Kate Kuzmic took second doubles 6-1, 6-2 and Laura Cruso and Julia DeGrooth won third doubles 6-0, 6-0.

Westerly remained even in the loss column with 9-1 Narragansett in Division II Suburban B.

The Mariners are 9-1 overall and in division play with results from Tuesday’s match against North Providence unavailable at press time.

Westerly hosts East Providence Thursday at 4 p.m.

Chariho (2-9, 2-9 Division II Suburban A) visits Lincoln Thursday at 4 p.m.
