  • Cowboys fall against Smithfield

    SMITHFIELD — Chariho’s Junior Peewees trailed by just five points at halftime, but lost to Smithfield 21-8 on Sunday in a Rhode Pre-Teen Youth Football Conference game.

    Smithfield took a 13-0 lead in the second quarter before Corbin Brown went 32 yards on a Connor Perrin pass to cut the lead to 13-6. Brown kept the ball himself and scored on a conversion run to make it 13-8.

    Chariho (3-2, 3-1 Rhode Island Preteen) plays at North Providence Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

    SMITHFIELD — The Vikings returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and got all the points they needed on that play Sunday.

    Will Foley, Tom Wregian and Paul Hodgkins each had solid defensive games for Chariho.

    Smithfield improved to 2-2.

    Chariho (0-5, 0-4 Rhode Island Preteen) visits North Providence Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

    SMITHFIELD — Two second-quarter touchdowns for Smithfield provided all of the scoring in Sunday’s game.

    Doog Beschuitz had six total tackles and four for a loss. Jason Hammond had seven tackles and averaged 5.5 yards per carry on offense. Chris Bliven made seven tackles.

    The Cowboys (2-3) play at North Providence Sunday at 3 p.m.
