Denton gets second at Speedbowl

WATERFORD — Hope Valley’s Garrett Denton finished second in the final Mini Stocks race of the season Saturday night at Waterford Speedbowl.

Denton did briefly challenge race winner Ken Cassidy Jr., of Lisbon, Conn., for a few laps in the 50-lap feature. But Cassidy, the points champion, pulled away to lead the final 33 laps.

Dale Sherman, of Charlestown, was 11th and Bill Leonard, also of Charlestown, finished 17th. Wood River Junction’s Ian Brew placed 20th.

The race was delayed by a 90-minute rain delay just seven laps after it started.

The SK-Modified, Late Model and Street Stock races were postponed until Oct. 12 due to Sunday’s rain.

The Late Model race was suspended after 34 laps. The other two races did not start.
