Knights sweep Bulldogs

WESTERLY — Exeter-West Greenwich, the second place team in the Division II-South girls’ volleyball standings, put on a serving clinic to post a three-game sweep of Westerly Friday.

The Knights won by scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-16 to improve to 8-1 overall and 8-1 Division II-South. Undefeated Narragansett leads the 10-team division. The loss drops Westerly to 1-9 and 1-8 in Division II-South.

“They’re a strong serving team and we didn’t adjust to the quality of their serves,” Westerly coach Molly Morrone said. “Despite our loss, however, we stayed positive and played pretty well, especially at the net. When we were able to dig the serves, we put together a nice offense.”

Izzy Carey led the Bulldogs with seven digs, five kills and four blocks. Lia Gabrielle had five digs and one service ace, and Alyssa Valentini contributed five digs. Megan Lacey served two aces for the Bulldogs, who play at Cranston West at 6:30 p.m..
