Bulldogs fall after taking the first game

WESTERLY — Westerly High’s girls’ volleyball team couldn’t build on a good start and suffered another loss.

The Bulldogs defeated Pilgrim 25-22 in the first game of the best-of-five Division II-South match but lost the next three — 25-19, 25-12, 25-14 — Wednesday night at Federico Gym.

“I think our passing kind of fell apart,” said coach Molly Morrone, adding that the Bulldogs were not covering the court well because of communication gaps.

Pilgrim improved to 4-4 overall and in the league, while Westerly fell to 1-8, 1-7.

Lia Gabrielle had six digs and a block and also made her debut as a setter.

Megan Lacey had four kills and five digs, and Andrea Morrone had six aces and five digs. Julianna Morrone had three aces and two kills, and Izzy Carey had two kills.

Westerly has another home game on Friday, taking on Exeter-West Greenwich at 6:30 p.m.
