Westerly Seniors earn win


NORWICH — Ryan Holloway scored three touchdowns and rushed for 121 yards as the Westerly Seniors topped Norwich 29-13 in a Southern New England Youth Football Conference game on Sunday.

All three touchdowns come on runs of 3 yards.

Defensive tackle Taylor Bernardoni had a big game with 15 tackles, eight of them for a loss.

Holloway’s first TD came in the second quarter and capped an 80-yard drive. Jalen Valentin ran in the extra point.

Holloway’s second TD came behind tight end Marcue McLeod and Bernardoni, who plays tackle on offense. Jacob Keszyinski also completed a 9-yard pass to Valentin to convert a fourth down in the drive. Westerly led 13-7 at the half.

Jacob Schafer scored on a 40-yard run early in the second half and his PAT kick made it 21-7. Holloway’s final TD later in the quarter followed by another Schafer kick made it 29-7.

Schafer, who rushed for 51 yards, also intercepted a pass.

Westerly (1-2) hosts Norwich on Saturday at 8 p.m.

NORWICH — Norwich (2-1) led 18-0 and rolled to a shutout win on Sunday.

Jonathan Brutcher rushed for 40 yards to lead the Bulldog offense. Isaiah Luzzi ran for 34 yards and Aaron Keegan had 30.

Luzzi had seven solo tackles from his inside linebacker position. Defensive tackle Josh Lacert racked up five solo tackles. Outside linebacker Nathan Bousquet and defensive end Dylan Doucette each had four.

Westerly (1-2) hosts Waterford in its home opener on Saturday at 6 p.m.

WESTERLY — Norwich scored in each quarter and blanked Westerly on Sunday.

Norwich (2-1) led 18-0 at halftime. It was the third straight road game for Westerly (0-3)

Jawarie Hamelin totaled 50 yards rushing for Westerly. Coach Brian Bergel said the Bulldogs had no pass completions.

Hamelin also led the Bulldog defense with 11 tackles (two for losses). Luke Marley and Kyle Cioffi recovered fumbles. Xavier Ledbetter had a quarterback sack. Drew Mason had one tackle for a loss.

Westerly hosts Waterford at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the Bulldogs’ home opener.
