  • Riptide roll to 34-point win

    WESTERLY — The Rhode Island Riptide rushed for 211 yards on their way to a 34-0 win over the Whaling City Clippers in a New England Football League game on Saturday at Westerly High.

    The Riptides came up with two scoring drives in the first quarter. The first was capped with a Mike Wilson-to-Jay Wilson touchdown pass from six yards out and Bily Slater scored on a 1-yard run. The second score was set up by a Maurice McClellan interception.

    In the third quarter Bobby Johnson scored on a run from 2 yards out and Athony Coppock returned an interception 87 yards for a score.

    In the fourth McClellan returned a punt 34 yards fro a score.

    Salter finished with 60 rushing yards on six carries. Mike Wilson carried five times for 48 yards and Johnson gained 61 yards on four carries.

    The Riptide is now 3-2 after starting the season 0-2. The Riptide hosts Woonsocket Wardogs (5-0) at Westerly high on Saturday.
