Amateur baseball WFP facing Tom Ready in playoffs

WESTERLY — White Fire Protection will face Tom Ready and Sons Excavating in the Rhode Island Independent Amateur Baseball League quarterfinals starting Wednesday night at Cimalore Field.

Tom Ready (20-7) is the No. 3 seed and WFP (17-11) is seeded No. 6. It is a best-of-three series. Wednesday’s game is at 7:30 p.m. The second game is scheduled for Friday at 7:30 p.m. The third game would be Sunday at Sprague Field, Narragansett or at Cimalore.

For the second consecutive season, WFP’s JJ Sorenson led the league in hits (45), RBIs (41), tied for third in runs (26), third in doubles (10) and second in triples (four). Nick Benoit was second in the league with 27 runs scored and third with 21 stolen bases. Sean Becker led the league with 32 walks and hit .315.Becker was tied for third in runs (26). Andy Devereaux hit .33 and was third in the league with 23 walks.

Tom Ready’s Mattt Borges was second in RBIs (33) and third in hitting (.422). John Jacobellis was second in hitting (.423).
