Amateur baseball WFP closes with victory against EP


EAST PROVIDENCE — Corey Hickox scattered nine hits as White Fire Protection defeated the East Providence Marlins 10-4 Saturday night to finish the regular season in the Rhode Island Independent Amateur Baseball League.

Hickox pitched seven innings and gave up four earned runs. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.

JJ Sorensen was 2 for 6 with a stolen base and a run scored. Andy Devereaux drove in a pair of runs. Nick Benoit and Jason Correia scored two runs each.

WFP (17-11) will next compete in the league playoffs. Pairings will be determined tonight.

The Marlins dropped to 13-14.

WESTERLY — White Fire Protection clinched a playoff berth with a win over Cornerstone Pub on Thursday.

JJ Sorensen had three hits, including two triples, scored three times and drove in two runs. Sorensen leads the league in hits (43) and RBIs (41).

Kaelen Rayner went eight innings, allowed eight runs (two earned) on nine hits and struck out seven.

Nick Benoit doubled and scored three times.
