Chariho roundup: Chargers shut out Pilgrim

WARWICK — Chariho High and Pilgrim entered Tuesday’s Division I-South boys’ volleyball match with identical divisional records. The Chargers left little doubt about which team left with the upper hand.

Chariho rolled to a 3-0 victory with wins of 25-15, 25-23 and 25-7 to improve to 3-3, 2-3 Division I-South. Pilgrim is 1-4, 1-4 Division I-South.

“It was a statement win against a team in a similar place as us,” Chariho coach Doug Bliven said. “We got control of the match early and kept them out of sync with our serving and offense, exploiting weaknesses throughout.”

Zach Wilcox led Chariho with 15 kills and added 18 digs. Ben NeJame was the team-leader with 21 digs. Setter Stephen Phillip contributed 36 assists, and Robbie Toth added 15 digs, 12 kills and two service aces. Brandon Eaton had seven kills and four digs.

Chariho hosts Cranston East at 6:30 p.m. today.
