PLAINFIELD, Conn. - Jeff Pearce's hat trick helped the Stonington High boys' soccer team close its regular season on a high note with a 5-0 win against Plainfield in an ECC Medium Division game Monday.

Pearce started out the Bears' scoring with an unassisted goal in the first half.

Nick Donahue put Stonington (9-7, 6-4 ECC-Medium) up 2-0 with another first half tally.

Donahue also had three assists to go with his goal.

Pearce gave the Bears a 3-0 lead before halftime and scored the final goal of the game to make the score 5-0.

Devin White accounted for Stonington's other score.

Dylan Jacobs had an assist. Stonington dominated Plainfield (5-10, 2-8 ECC-Small) in shots as well, outshooting the Panthers 22-6.

Next up for the Bears is the Class M playoffs. Pairings will be released later this week.

FIELD HOCKEY: Haddam-Killingworth 1, Stonington 0

HIGGANUM, Conn. - The Cougars held Stonington to just one shot during their non-league victory over the Bears Monday.

The Bears (11-2-1) beat the Cougars 2-1 in their season opener Sept 15.

The Bears were outshot 7-1 and Julie Royer made six saves in net.

Emily Anderson scored the lone goal of the game 3 minutes and 25 seconds into the second half.

Stonington coach Jenna Tucchio said her team needs to start adjusting to the up-tempo style of play that strong teams like Haddam-Killingworth (11-3-0-1) play in preparation for the playoffs.

The Bears play at Branford, another tough non-league opponent, Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. in their final regular season game. Branford beat the Bears 1-0 earlier this season.
