Along the river, a sense of peace

Along a secluded bend of the Pawcatuck River, set on more than twenty-five acres of private, wooded land sits one of the most unique and inspiring properties in all of Westerly. Tucked away down a quiet dead-end street, 14 Boy Scout Drive is a sprawling estate of natural perfection.

Privacy seekers and nature lovers alike will fall in love with everything 14 Boy Scout Drive has to offer. With its main house and four separate out-buildings, the property is rich with versatile interiors, but its exteriors are what truly put in a class all its own. The buildings on the property rise high over the banks of the river, safely above any threat of flooding. The river views across the property are absolutely stunning.

A private dock along the hillside and quiet vistas throughout give the land a park-like feel. Surrounded by trees and full of mature plantings, there isn’t a spot in sight that won’t take your breath away. Open land off of the quiet bend of the river provides the perfect spot for summer picnics and exploring, while a tranquil waterfall and fishpond along the front of the home adds even more to the peaceful surroundings.

The main house is a striking ranch home built in the 1930’s. The old-style ranch aesthetic adds character to the homes design, with original wood floors flowing throughout. Entering through the home, a nice-sized room ideal for a home office sits to the right, complete with its own full bathroom. The room could easily be converted in to a bonus bedroom. Across the hall, a spacious eat-in kitchen compliments the style of the home with country style cabinets and a wide extended dining area looking out over the front yard.

An impressive living room with a large stone fireplace seamlessly opens into a wider living area with window bench seating and panoramic views over the river from its many windows. The room has its own walk-out to a riverside, gravel patio set along the edge of the property. A formal dining room, also with river views, built-in bench seating and its own wood-burning fireplace sits between the living room and bedrooms.

The first bedroom greets the morning with river views and its own entrance out to the quiet patio along the back of the home. While not the master, the bedroom does have its own private bathroom with a walk-in shower as well as a walk-in closet. The master has all of the same, minus the water views. However, the master bedroom does have its own private egress as well as a wood-burning fireplace.

Downstairs, a finished basement opens into a large den with built-in bookshelves, a wet bar and the homes fourth wood-burning fireplace. A separate room on the floor could easily be used as a guest bedroom, with another full bathroom just across the hall. Also downstairs is a large workshop and storage area.

All four of the out-buildings on the property are designed to match the log-cabin look of the main house. The first building is a cozy one-bedroom, one-bath, heated guest cottage with its own river views. The second building is an impressive studio built in 2007. The studio has vaulted ceilings and tall, wide windows along its front. It’s the ideal place to create art, practice yoga or just enjoy a quiet place all to one’s self. At the back of the studio, a wide garden shed provides a wonderful space for tending to one of the homes many gardens. The final two buildings are a detached two-car garage and a beautiful boathouse with exposed beams and stained glass windows.

Being so close to the river creates a space of pure relaxation and unsurpassed privacy. Whether boating, gardening, hiking, enjoying the peace and quiet or desiring a place for the family to spread out, run around and enjoy life, 14 Boy Scout Drive in Westerly has it all.
