I imagined myself today telling my children how they will have to go to another school outside of town. I would have to explain to them that this unfavorable outcome happened on my watch.
I love my children. I'm a mom, so I worry about colds, washing hands and brushing teeth, eating more vegetables, and getting exercise. I shouldn't have to worry about the toxins in their deteriorating elementary school or that my community does not care whether they are educated in their own town of North Stonington or elsewhere. I want my children to come back to North Stonington to live in the house where they grew up to raise their own family alongside of generations who love this town and all the people who live here.
I cannot stay in a town where my family could not come back to. Give them a reason to stay in North Stonington with us!
Editor’s note: This letter was received before North Stonington voted at referendum to reaffirm its support of its school modernization project.
