Letter: Degnan ready to give back for D-39 constituents

Letter: Degnan ready to give back for D-39 constituents

This is an open letter to the citizens of Hopkinton, Richmond and Exeter.

My name is William Degnan and I am seeking election to the Rhode Island House of Representatives for District 39.

After being involved in the finances of the town of Richmond for five years, four years as chairman of the finance board, I have come to recognize many of the issues that we all face on a daily basis. The three towns share similarities as far as population size, school districts and what seems to be nonstop property tax increases.

I know that I am qualified to take up the challenges of the district on your behalf, and that together we can achieve so much more than we realize.

My wife, Honi, and I live in Richmond and we appreciate the beauty and peacefulness of our rural community. We are both lifelong residents of Rhode Island.

My background includes being retired after 28 years in finance and administration in the Rhode Island Department of Transportation.

In that time, I have spoken before the Rhode Island House and Senate finance committees defending budget submissions and capital improvements.

I hold an MBA degree from Providence College and an accounting degree from Bryant University. Additionally, I was the co-owner of a large salon and spa in the Providence East Side. I’m on the side of small business owners.

I am the volunteer treasurer of the RICAN food pantry for South County.

I served honorably in the U.S. Army for six years.

All this has brought me to this place where it is time to use the experience to give back. It is time to take up the causes of you, the residents of the district.

The position I am seeking carries the obligation to stand up for the interests of many; the waters of Narragansett Bay, where the fishing industry earns its living; the farms that grow produce and sod; taxpayers who are looking for some kind of relief, and Exeter, where they are looking to strike a balance between solar arrays and the rights of homeowners.

I will be going to as many doors as possible between now and Election Day to introduce myself and to listen to what you have to say. I will be your voice in the House of Representatives.

I can be reached at 401-497-8455 or via email at MjrGlobal1@gmail.com
