Candidates for office need to be interested, informed

We have been witnessing changes within town governance.

Near term there are, or will be, openings on various boards that must be filled with qualified candidates who can donate their wisdom, talent and TIME! One of the qualifications should not be party affiliation!! The appointments process is controlled effectively by one party consumed by its own self interests. Who advocates for all the rest of the citizens of our town who are Independents. All candidates must have their applications posted on the town website for transparent review and comment. An individual stating that he or she would like to give back something to the town is not a qualification any more than simply being a lifelong resident is.

Personally, I would like candidates, in addition to signing the ethics statement, sign off on having read the Comprehensive Plan and applicable ordinances for their respective boards.

This is not asking a lot of volunteers. It is part of the job description. We will not overcome the problems before us until we have truly interested, informed, non-conflicted individuals serving.

Candidates proposed by the appointment chairs must not be presented and voted on in the particular order ordained by those deemed in charge of the process. They must be screened together openly and presented in no preordained order. Let’s get on with the process.
