Neighbors dislike strangers picking through recycling

How is it not theft when people pick through your recycling? That is recycling that a resident is giving to the Town of Stonington to do with as they see fit (perhaps sell it off), and the pickup is paid for by our property taxes. I know in my neighborhood, which is off the beaten path in Pawcatuck, my neighbors and I don’t appreciate strangers picking through our stuff. We enjoy our little neighborhood, which is a dead end, and don’t appreciate these strangers picking through our stuff. How do we know they aren’t also criminals? Casing houses? Child molesters etc.? Not too mention, we put our trash and recycling at the end of our driveways, not in the street. And we aren’t a “sidewalk neighborhood.”

Stonington needs to find a way to deter these people. By the way, not a single “picker” that roams my neighborhood has had Connecticut license plates.
