Whirling wind turbines are a hazard to birds, too

In your articles debating the pros and cons of wind turbines, no mention was made of the tremendous number of birds that are killed each day by the whirling turbine blades. Two years ago, a study estimated that 1,000 birds were killed each day in the United States and, as the number of wind turbines has expanded since then, the daily death toll is undoubtedly now higher.

Several years ago, Exxon had to pay a multi-million dollar fine because a small number of birds of a protected species had died in an oil spill.

Yet, ironically, neither any government agency nor the Audubon Society is examining the birds felled by wind-turbine blades each day to determine if any protected species are among the dead.

As longtime members of the Audubon Society, my wife and I are saddened by this rather hypocritical lack of concern on the part of self-described “green energy” advocates for the tremendous damage to our bird population being done each day by the wind turbines.
