  • ‘Choose life’ proponents fear giving people choices

In the book Nineteen Eighty Four George Orwell introduced the idea of “newspeak” In newspeak peace is war, freedom is slavery, and ignorance is power.

By that same logic the word “chose” in the phrase “chose life” means promote and pass laws that take away reproductive choices. To put it in newspeak “chose is dictate”. With that euphemistic use of language the license plate that says “Chose life” quite logically means “dictate life”.

In his letter of July 10 (Why does choosing life spark such great fear) John T. Gentile complains that groups like The R. I. Coalition for Reproductive Justice fear choice. I would say that they are the ones that welcome and promote choice. It is the “choose life” crowd that fear giving people choices.
