WESTERLY — A woman suffered injuries when she was thrown from the back of an all-terrain vehicle after it hit a car on Canal Street Wednesday evening.
Alexa R. Degiacomo, 19, was the passenger on an ATV being driven by Robert L. Vocatura, 19, both of Westerly. Degiacomo was not wearing a helmet, according to a police report on the incident. Vocatura told police he was also thrown from the ATV.
Westerly police said they arrived on the scene to find Degiacomo laying on the ground with a Westerly Ambulance Corps member tending to her. She was later transported to Rhode Island Hospital where she was treated and released.
Police report the driver of the car, a 17-year-old from Westerly, said he was coming north on Canal Street when a “train” of three ATVs came around the corner. He said the first one nearly struck his vehicle and the second went over the yellow line and hit his vehicle. The other two operators left the scene, police said.
Police said the three ATV drivers were to be summonsed for operation of unregistered vehicles and laned-roadway violations.
