WESTERLY — A Hopkinton man is facing charges in connection with a Wednesday crash along Old Hopkinton Road after police said he struck an oncoming car near the intersection of Shilke Drive, then swerved around the car on his motorcycle and onto a grassy area before fleeing.

The man, James D. Greene, 27, of 69 Maxson Hill Road, was charged with failure to stop at an accident causing damage to property and driving when license is suspended or denied. He was issued a summons to appear in Fourth Division District Court later this month.

According to a police report, Greene was driving a motorcycle along Old Hopkinton Road in the area of Shilke Drive when he crossed the center median and struck a car that was traveling in the opposite direction. A police report indicated that he hit the front passenger side of the car, then swung around the car.

No injuries were reported, although the car and motorcycle were noticeably damaged.

Witnesses provided a description of both the motorcycle and Greene, police said, and Westerly police issued an alert to area law enforcement. The motorcycle was located by Hopkinton police, Westerly Police Chief Richard Silva said, and Greene was identified as the owner and issued the summons.
