MYSTIC — Interstate 95 North between exits 90 and 91 were closed for several hours Saturday night after a fatal motorcycle accident during the afternoon.
Area police and fire departments responded to the call at 5:15 p.m. to find the driver already dead, according to Old Mystic Fire Department Chief Ken Richards.
The man, described by Richards as a male in his early 60s, appeared to have struck the guardrail on I-95 next to Old Mistick Village and suffered multiple blunt trauma injuries, he said.
Troopers from the Connecticut State Police stayed on the scene until the man’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner.
Until the road was cleared late Saturday, traffic was diverted off the highway at exit 90 and redirected back onto the highway at exit 91, according to Connecticut State Police.
The Mystic River Ambulance Association and Lawrence + Memorial Hospital paramedics also responded to the call.
The cause of death remains under investigation, Richards said. Any personal information about the victim will not be released until notification of next of kin.
