STONINGTON — The town of Stonington is offering a tax relief program for elderly or totally disabled property owners. Homeowners who were age 65 as of Dec. 31, 2013, or considered totally disabled by Social Security and with a total income of less than $34,100 for a single person or $41,600 for a married couple, may be eligible for benefits.

Residents must submit proof of income, including Social Security, for the 2013 calendar year and their 2013 income tax return, if filed, to apply for benefits. The filing deadline is May 15. For more information, visit the Stonington Tax Assessor’s office, 152 Elm St., between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, or call 860-535-5098.
