WATERFORD — Charter Oak Federal Credit Union awarded 10 grants worth $40,000 in late July to Eastern Connecticut organizations, with the awards ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. Among the recipients were the Connecticut Humane Society, Eastern Connecticut Community Gardens Association, Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board Inc., the Furniture Bank of Southeastern Connecticut, and the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center.

To encourage philanthropy in New London and Windham counties, Charter Oak has reinstated its Matching Gifts Program to donate $100,000 in 100 days to the charities most meaningful to its members. Through this program, the credit union will match donations, up to $500, made by its primary members. Visit CharterOak.org to learn more. Charter Oak reviews grant requests on a quarterly basis. Its next deadline is Oct. 1.
