5,000 lose power in Westerly area

National Grid reported a power outage for nearly 5,000 customers in Westerly and surrounding towns on Friday.

One outage area, with 2,279 customers out of power, is contained in Westerly and began at 5:35 p.m. The second area, which begins in Westerly, goes through Bradford, and stretches north to Woodville and east to Burlingame State Park, started two minutes later.

The outages for all but about five customers were fixed before 7:45 p.m. The problem was caused by issues with a subtransmission line and a substation, according to a National Grid spokeswoman.
