Cancellations, delays and postponements


With snow, high winds and heavy rains predicted for southern Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut, local and state officials are taking precautions and announcing cancellations and storm-related policies. Gov. Lincoln Chafee has announced that the state has enacted its adverse weather policy for state workers, while Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has ordered a delayed opening for state offices this morning until 10 a.m. for all nonessential state employees

Locally, the following schools are closed today:

Westerly Schools

Chariho Schools

Stonington Schools

North Stonington Schools

North Stonington Christian Academy

St Pius X School

St. Michael School

Pine Point School

Westerly Pre-school

Wood River Pre-school

Trinity Lutheran Pre-school, Ashaway

All three branches of the Ocean Community YMCA; Arcadia, Mystic and Westerly-Pawcatuck has announced that all branches are open today but all classes scheduled before 3 p.m. have been canceled.

Charlestown Senior Center is closed

Area colleges/universities have made announcements:

CCRI — All campuses, all classes and activities canceled until 4 p.m.

Mitchell College — Classes canceled

Providence College — Morning classes canceled; offices closed

RI College — Classes canceled through 4 p.m.; classes/events will resume this evening

URI — Morning classes canceled; classes resume at noon

Closings and other storm-related announcements will be posted as they are received.
