Two-car accident in Westerly injures four

WESTERLY — A two-car accident on Granite Street Saturday morning left four people with minor injuries.

The Westerly police and fire departments, along with ambulances from Westerly, Charlestown and Ashaway, all responded to the call, which came shortly after 10 a.m.

Capt. Shawn Lacey, of the Westerly Police Department, said that responders had to use an extraction tool to remove one of the victims from the vehicle because the passenger-side door had caved in from the crash.

The accident occurred outside of the Granite Shopping Center, as the driver of one vehicle attempted to make a left turn into the shopping center. The car traveling in the opposite direction then collided with the first vehicle.

The two drivers and two passengers were all taken by ambulance to The Westerly Hospital, though their injuries did not appear to be serious, Lacey said.
