Stonington library’s Books Sandwiched In program set for Thursday

STONINGTON — The Stonington Free Library, 20 High St., will host Books Sandwiched In at noon on Thursday. Ken Knott will speak on “Virginia Woolf — A Tumultuous Life.”

Participants should bring a sandwich; coffee and tea will be provided. The event is free. For more information, call 860-535-0658.

Mystic & Noank Library to host gala fundraiser

MYSTIC — The board of trustees and volunteers of the Mystic & Noank Library will host the second annual gala fundraiser for the library at Hummingbird Hollow Farm, 110 New London Road, on Thursday, from 6 to 10 p.m.

“Diamonds & Denim” is the theme for the fundraiser, which takes place in the arena of the new riding stable, Hummingbird Hollow. Guests will be treated to hors d’oeuvres and a barbecue with many vegetarian options, live music, and silent and live auctions featuring travel, gifts and one-of-a-kind experiences. Guests are encouraged to wear denim and boots from the waist down, with finery or ruffles from the waist up.

Tickets are $75 each and may be purchased at the Mystic & Noank Library, online at mysticnoanklibrary.org, or by calling 860-572-8191. Tickets must be purchased in advance; walk-ins are not allowed. There is no parking at the venue; a free shuttle will be provided from Cutler Middle School.

Wine, beer tasting fundraiser to benefit WHS Alumni Scholarship

WESTERLY — A wine and beer tasting fundraiser will be held for the Westerly High School Alumni Scholarship fund at the Westerly Lodge of the Elks, 1 Dixon St., on Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by M&M Caterers. Mystic Garden Club disseminates donations

MYSTIC — The Mystic Garden Club has distributed $26,000 in donations to community organizations. The organizations included Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center; Mystic Arts Center; Mystic Historical Society; Mystic Lower Cemetery; Mystic and Noank Library; Jabez Smith House; Mystic Seaport; CUSH; Denison Homestead; Coogan Farm at Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center; GOSHA land purchase; and three scholarships.

The Mystic Garden Club is a 90-member nonprofit organization dedicated to the benefit of the community. The club raises money through its annual greens sale, held each year in December.
