Liberty Street fire displaces 3

PAWCATUCK — There were no injuries but three people had to find a place to stay after a fire this morning on Liberty Street.

Pawcatuck firefighters were called to the scene of a fire at 125 Liberty St. at about 1 a.m., according to Stonington Police Capt. Jerry Desmond this morning. The tenants of the apartment above the unoccupied apartment where the fire apparently started were displaced. Representatives of the American Red Cross were on the scene to help them move to another location.

Desmond said this morning that the cause of the fire in the unoccupied apartment is under investigation. He said most of the damage appeared to be from smoke.
