WESTERLY — A Westerly resident was arrested on multiple charges Wednesday morning stemming from two separate incidents the previous night.
Ryan T. Mayo, 32, of 17 Hobart St., was charged with simple assault or battery, vandalism/malicious injury to property, disorderly conduct and duty to stop — accident resulting — and damage to vehicle.
The first three charges originated from an altercation involving Mayo and three others at the Cleats Sports Club bar on Granite Street Tuesday night. Capt. Shawn Lacey said police responded to a 9:30 p.m. call, but that Mayo had left by the time they arrived.
Several hours later, at 1 a.m. Wednesday morning, an abandoned car with damage to the front end was found by the intersection of routes 1 and 78. Lacey said officers contacted the owner of the vehicle, who said Mayo had borrowed the car.
Shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, Mayo turned himself in at the station, where he was arrested for charges related to the altercation at the bar, and for an accident in a borrowed car in which he hit the center island of the road and some signage, Lacey said.
