Police Lt. Phil Williams said details of the crash would not be complete for some time, but indicated a woman driving the sedan that landed in a ditch was likely taken to Rhode Island Hospital, based on the extent of her injuries.
Emergency personnel from the Dunn’s Corners Fire Department worked with extrication equipment to free the woman from the wreckage of her vehicle. After working for some time to get her out of the car, Westerly Ambulance Corps EMTs quickly began procedures. She was placed on a stretcher and carried up the steep embankment to the awaiting ambulance. There were several ambulances on the scene.
Williams said officers expected to talk to one of the drivers who was taken to Rhode Island Hospital to obtain information, as well as to witnesses. An accident reconstruction team will assist in the investigation. Police and fire personnel were on the scene for about an hour as heavy rain made conditions at the site difficult.
