North Stonington man charged after Westerly crash

WESTERLY — A 22-year-old North Stonington man flipped his 2002 PT cruiser on Hiscox Road sometime Wednesday night or Thursday morning and left the scene, Westerly police said.

Christian J. Lohman, of 115 Fowler Road, was charged with a misdemeanor, leaving the scene of an accident, with resulting damage to a vehicle. Lohman was apparently uninjured in the crash.

A Hiscox Road resident reported finding the destroyed vehicle off the road Thursday morning, but indicated he had not heard nor seen a collision. Neighbors who were questioned also had not heard a crash.

Westerly police, after determining who owned the car by finding Lohman’s passport and cellphone in the car, contacted Connecticut police to go to his house. Meanwhile, a Westerly officer called phone numbers on the cellphone and eventually contacted Lohman’s girlfriend. Lohman then went to the Westerly station, where he was arrested, charged and issued a summons to appear in 4th Division District Court at a later date.
