Westerly man charged with felony strangulation

WAKEFIELD — A Westerly man was held without bail after appearing in a Washington County courtroom Thursday after being arrested on felony charges in the early morning hours.

Shawn B. Perry, 44, of 110 Post Road, Apt. 106, was charged by Westerly police with domestic assault by strangulation, a felony, and domestic disorderly conduct, after police were called to the Aqua Star Motel shortly after midnight.

Police report a woman who lives with Perry at the motel claimed the two got into an argument when she asked for a ride to West Warwick. She claimed Perry began choking her and slapped her in the face. According to the police report on the incident, Perry denied the charges.

Perry did not enter a plea in court. Judge Madeline Quirk set bail on the district court matters at $20,000 with surety, meaning cash bail of $2,000. However, he was held on charges that he is in violation of terms of his probation on other charges heard in Superior Court. He was also issued a no-contact order with the alleged victim.
