GROTON — The Dairy Queen along Fort Hill Road will be closed, at least temporarily, after a morning fire broke out along the back side of the building Wednesday morning, causing smokiness and some minor damage in the restaurant itself.

Poquonnock Bridge firefighters assisted by area agencies, including the Mystic and Old Mystic fire departments, responded to the restaurant at 42 Fort Hill Road around 8:20 a.m. after receiving reports that a fire had broken out in a storage room near the back of the building. Damage was not considered to be serious, officials said, but an inspector and Ledge Light Health District staff were expected to evaluate the building before the restaurant could reopen.

No injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation.
