We’ve heard many reports from those who work and live in Groton City that a tornado hit that part of the town Wednesday morning when a line of thunderstorms barrelled through the region. But were the high winds and pelting rain really the result of a categorizable twister? No, according to Ryan Hanrahan, a meteorologist at NBC-30 in Hartford, but Groton City did experience high winds of over 80 miles per hour with gusts up to 95 (that burst was measured on the north crane at EB!).As this video shows, tornado or no tornado, this display from Mother Nature was frightening to behold for those who witnessed it. Tragically, a man was killed in New London when an uprooted tree fell on his car.If the video above isn’t enough, here’s another crazy look from the Subway at the corner of Poquonnock Road, Benham Road, Chicago Ave. and Mitchell Street.
