The Westerly Sun

AGE: Tomorrow I will be 33.

OCCUPATION: Owner of The Wedding Planner and a physical education teacher at Stonington High School. I also have my real estate license.

RESIDENCE: Westerly.

RIGHT NOW I’M IN THE MIDDLE OF: Feeling excited about expanding my business with some new services for 2016 and starting a nonprofit, The Violet Love Fund.

BORN, RAISED & GREW UP IN: Westerly.

FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND MY TIME: Weekend afternoon family trips and activities; doing do-it-yourself home decorating projects; gardening; walks and shopping.

PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: Starting my own business.

I’D LIKE TO BE REMEMBERED FOR: Being a good person.

TOP ON MY BUCKET LIST: Buying a beach house in Florida. Hopefully, sooner than later!

ALWAYS IN MY POCKET: ChapStick.

WHAT I WANTED TO BE WHEN I GREW UP: An interior decorator.

PEOPLE WHO HAVE INFLUENCED ME THE MOST: My husband, Jacob, who has offered me encouragement and motivated me to pursue my hobbies and dreams; my parents, Connie and Steve McGuire, have taught me that hard work, honesty, and generosity all pay off; and Patrick and Joseph McGuire are two of the kindest and most supportive brothers a sister could have.

FAVORITE AUTHOR: Jodi Picoult.

I AM READING: “Happier At Home,” by Gretchen Rubin, the sequel to “The Happiness Project.”

I AM LISTENING TO: My kids singing “Let It Go” (all day every day!) and some Ed Sheeran.

FAVORITE MOVIE: “Jerry McGuire.”

FAVORITE TV SHOWS: “The Brady Bunch” and Giada’s cooking shows. I recently watched every episode of “The Brady Bunch” again with my eldest three children who want to know why no one at school knows who the Bradys are! My girls and I watch one of Giada’s cooking shows every day and Lydia, Molly and I have met her.

FAVORITE PET: My chocolate lab, Emma. We share her with my wonderful in-laws, Rebecca and Tony Lamb.

FAVORITE COMFORT FOOD: A chocolate candy bar with a glass of milk.

AMOUNT OF TIME I SPEND ON FACEBOOK: Minimal.

TRAIT I MOST ADMIRE: Empathy.

PET PEEVE: When my husband “cleans up” and puts things away in random drawers instead of where they belong.

FAVORITE QUOTATION: “She believed she could. So she did.”

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT OUR LITTLE CORNER OF THE WORLD: The beach and warm fall days.

CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT: My four kids; Lydia, Molly, Kevin and Violet; and my husband, Jacob. And God. He has given me so many blessings.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT ABOUT ME: My fondness for the color pink is somewhat obsessive. My kids call me “The Pink Lady.”

BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED: I still remember the banner my third grade teacher, Mrs. Costello, had in her classroom, “Anything worth doing is worth doing well.”

ADVICE I BEST LIKE TO GIVE: “It’s nice to be important. It’s more important to be nice,” especially, to my children and students.

IF I RULED THE WORLD I WOULD: I would let women have long paid maternity leaves and allow children to bring cupcakes to school for their birthdays.

IF I WON THE LOTTERY, THE FIRST THING I WOULD DO IS: Become a stay at home mom. But I’ve never bought a ticket.

I DRIVE A: Teal 2010 GMC Acadia.

I WISH I DROVE A: Pink VW bug.

ALWAYS IN MY FRIDGE: Orange juice and milk and if we don’t have it someone’s taking a ride to get it!

IF I COULD CHOOSE ONE PERSON TO HAVE DINNER AND A CONVERSATION WITH I WOULD CHOOSE: My Nani, Carmela DeSantis. My Lydia Carmela is her namesake. I know she would love to meet all my children and am sure she is watching over them.
