PAWCATUCK — Stonington Police Capt. Jerry Desmond hopes the department’s investigation, and tips from witnesses, can help locate suspects involved in a brutal baseball bat assault Saturday night in downtown Pawcatuck.

“If you saw something, say something. If you know something, say something,” Desmond said about reaching out to the public for information as detectives continue investigating the assault with a baseball bat of a man who Desmond said was not local, but may have been visiting area residents.

Just before midnight Saturday, in the area below the train trestle at the juncture of Mechanic and West Broad streets, a man was attacked by a group of four or five men. Desmond said he does not have descriptions of the suspects. In addition to the assault, the man was also robbed. He was treated at Westerly Hospital and released, officials said.

If you have information about the attack, call the Stonington Police tip line at 860-599-7577.
