PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island residents have until today to register to vote in the Sept. 9 primary election.
The following locations will be open on Aug. 10 for local residents to register:
n Westerly Police Station, 60 Airport Road, Westerly, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
n Richmond Police Station, 1168 Main St., Wyoming, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
n Hopkinton Police Station, 406 Woodville Road, Hopkinton, from 1 to 4 p.m.
n Charlestown Town Hall, 4540 South County Trail, Charlestown, from 1 to 4 p.m.
In order to register, voters must be at least 18 years old by Nov. 4, a resident of Rhode Island, a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years old by Sept. 9 in order to vote in the primary.
This year’s primary will include races for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives and statewide General Offices as well as General Assembly and municipal seats.
In addition to targeting first-time voters, the special Sunday registration schedule gives voters who have moved or changed their names recently a way to update their voter records as required by state law.
