Westerly residents given more time to pay taxes

WESTERLY — The Town Council is giving property owners extra time to pay their first quarter municipal real estate and personal property tax bills because of a delay in getting the bills mailed out.

On Monday the council voted unanimously to extend the deadline to Aug. 15 after learning, from Town Manager Michelle Buck, that Vision Government Solutions, the company the town uses to prepare and mail the bills, was delayed in mailing the bills because of equipment problems.

The bills were mailed Monday and Tuesday. Typically the bills are mailed during the first week of July.

Buck said the delay in receiving tax payments is not anticipated to cause a cash flow problem for the town.

A similar problem occurred in 2012.
