Rescued swimmer upgraded to good condition

WESTERLY — A man that was pulled out of the Misquamicut surf Sunday, blue and unresponsive, was listed in good condition Tuesday in Hartford Hospital.

According to the police report, George Steele, whose address was not listed, was found floating in the water Sunday afternoon when a nearby swimmer realized something was wrong shortly after 1 p.m.

Other swimmers and passers-by helped pull him to shore, where police found him unconscious, foaming at the mouth, and blue in the face. He received CPR, and was taken to The Westerly Hospital by Westerly Ambulance. Although he became responsive in the ambulance, he was airlifted to Hartford Hospital from Westerly Hospital.
