Letter: Volunteers made Easter Seals event a success

The volunteer board of directors and dedicated staff at Easter Seals R.I. would like to extend a huge thank you to the event sponsors, in-kind donors and guests who made the third annual Kentucky Derby Party on May 3 at the Haversham in Westerly a great success.

The event generated more than $19,000 to benefit more than 500 children and young adults with special needs and disabilities and raised much needed awareness of the programs and service we offer in South County. Very special thanks go to the committee members of Celebration for Cause; Lisa Brandon, Elaine Lauro, and Cindy Rogan, who selected Easter Seals R.I. as this year’s beneficiary. For the past three years Lisa, Elaine, and Cindy have hosted this annually sold out Kentucky Derby Party to benefit local charitable organizations. These busy ladies never hesitate to step forward and work hard, contributing personal time, funds, and energies to ensure this fundraiser is always a big success. This dedication and kindness provides the “heart” to our organization — a necessary and valued part of what keeps us moving forward.

We deeply admire all that the members of Celebration for Cause accomplish for the families we serve. We truly appreciate this amazing group of community leaders for their support of Easter Seals R.I., and for joining us in valuing people for who they are, what they offer and what they hope to achieve.

Judy Fortier

The writer is the director of development at Easter Seals R.I.
