In honor of troops, and flag committee

The flags are gently moving on their standards along the streets

With patriotism ever present to our eyes do these things meet.

Over two hundred flags unfurled along the sidewalk we do greet

Extol the vision that we do experience ever so sweet.

The flags now gently swaying upon their staffs along this street

Evenly spaced geometrically is how our eyes observe this feat.

With patriotism to our soul do these flags meet

Those multiple flags unfolded, evenly spaced upon our streets.

Hold your banner, hold it up on high

Rejoice, upon these flags as they wave proudly against the clear blue sky.

Sing your praise of the land you love

Behold the blessings of the lord above.

This banner extols all of what we hold dear

The unfurling of this flag is perfectly clear.

Extol the virtue of the red, white and blue

Live, Liberty and happiness unfold into view.

We pay homage to those who placed themselves in harm’s way.

Our blessings to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and who are remembered on this day.

Jack Howard is a former Pawcatuck resident now living at Apple Rehab Watch Hill.
