Westerly Town Council: no door-to-door sales

WESTERLY — Door to door sales are now officially illegal in the town.

The Town Council unanimously approved an ordinance Monday banning such sales. Councilor Kenneth Parrilla left the meeting early due to illness and did not vote.

The ban was originally proposed by Westerly Police Chief Edward St. Clair and approved by the council’s Committee to Review the Code of Ordinances prior to moving to the full council for consideration. There was no comment during a public hearing conducted prior to the council’s vote Monday.

Charitable groups such as the Girl Scouts and religious organizations will not be affected by the new ordinance.
