Credit Union sponsoring multiple scholarships

WESTERLY — The Westerly Community Credit Union is sponsoring scholarships for local area high schools of Chariho, Exeter-West Greenwich, Narragansett, Prout, South Kingstown, Stonington, Westerly, and Wheeler.

Three scholarships are for the amount of $1,000 and one is for $500.

The application deadline for all scholarships is Friday, March 14.

• The annual Joseph N. Cugini Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior who plans to attend a two- or four-year college or university upon graduation. The one-time award of $1,000 will be awarded to a graduating senior with an interest in any area of study.

• The annual Robert M. Bewlay Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior who plans to attend a two- or four-year college or university upon graduation. The one-time award of $1,000 will be awarded to a graduating senior with an interest in any area of study.

• The Westerly Community Credit Union Vocational Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior who plans to attend a locally recognized vocation credentialed certificate program upon graduation. This annual scholarship is a one-time award of $1,000. A complete list of Credentialed Certified Programs can be found listed on the application.

• The Westerly Community Credit Union, as part of the Credit Union Association of Rhode Island College Scholarship Program, will submit the top three local applications to the program for final review and consideration for the eight scholarships of $500. Applicants will be evaluated on a variety of criteria including the students’ academic performances, financial need, extracurricular activities, and the quality and content of an essay that addresses the applicants’ intended major fields of study and career goals.

Applications for all scholarships are available at any Westerly Community Credit Union branch location, online at westerlyccu.com, and also at the guidance departments at the local high schools.
