    Police: Pit bull killed small dog, injured owner

    WESTERLY — A Bradford resident was charged by Westerly police with owning an aggressive dog after the pet attacked and killed another dog and injured its owner.

    Joseph W. Weaver, 21, of 23 Canterbury Drive, Bradford, was charged Wednesday morning based on a report that his loose pit bull/Labrador mix attacked another dog and its owner.

    An animal control officer responded to the call and found the victim with “visible lacerations” to her feet, knees and fingers. She was transported to The Westerly Hospital.

    According to the police report, the victim said she was walking her shih tzu on Canterbury Drive when Weaver’s dog attacked her dog, without provocation, killing the animal instantly.

    Weaver’s dog was said to be inside his home, but escaped through a broken kitchen storm door. The animal control officer confirmed the dog has an up-to-date rabies vaccine.
