WESTERLY — A two-car accident involving a police cruiser Monday night on High Street is under investigation.
Westerly Police Officer Brian Bruno was responding to a disturbance call on Pierce Street when he struck a car that had stopped in the northbound lane of High Street near Friendship Street at about 10 p.m., Police Chief Edward St. Clair said.
Eugene Celico, 62, and Cynthia Celico, 55, were in the 1995 Subaru Impreza that Bruno struck. The couple declined treatment from Westerly Ambulance Corps, St. Clair said.
Damage to the rear of the Celicos’ car was described by police as moderate. The cruiser sustained minor front-end damage. Both vehicles were driven from the scene of the accident, St. Clair said.
Bruno, 32, who has been with the department for three years, was not injured.
The accident is being investigated by an accident reconstruction officer, St. Clair said.
