Siepietowski named dining room manager at the Pavilion
ASHAWAY — The Pavilion Steak House has welcomed Brendan Siepietowski as its new dining room manager.

L+M named ‘Baby-Friendly’ facility
NEW LONDON — Baby-Friendly USA has named Lawrence + Memorial Hospital a Baby-Friendly birthing facility.
With the designation, L+M becomes just the seventh Connecticut hospital to achieve the status. Additionally, there are only 177 Baby-Friendly hospitals in the country.
The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative is a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The initiative encourages and recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
Based on the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, this award recognizes birth facilities that offer breastfeeding mothers the information, confidence and skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies.

Hilltop Inn & Suites launches new website
NORTH STONINGTON — Hilltop Inn & Suites has a new online home. Hilltop, located just down the road from Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods, has partnered with Mystic’s CMB Creative Group — a full-service advertising agency specializing in marketing, Web and print design — to create its new website.
CMB was founded by Courtney Moore and Maura Blaney in 2006.

Mystic Garden Club announces officers for 2013-14
MYSTIC — Mystic Garden Club has announced its officers for the coming year. Candace Briggs will serve as president, Judy Salerno as vice president, Pam Alexander as recording secretary, Joy Molloy as corresponding secretary, Phyllis Ball as treasurer, and Joan Pulver as assistant treasurer.
The club meets from September through June. Its major fundraiser is the Greens Sale in December that raises over $20,000 to benefit the community. It also runs a plant sale in June at the Mystic & Noank Library. Annual donations include the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, the Mystic Art Center and other community organizations. It also awards scholarships to students from the Stonington and Groton area.

‘Meet the Lenders’ lending matchmaker fair set for Oct. 4
PROVIDENCE — The Small Business Administration (SBA) will host a “Meet the Lenders” lending matchmaker fair on Friday, Oct. 4, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane, Warwick.
The fair is an outstanding opportunity to sit face-to-face with SBA lenders. Participants meet with lending officers in 15-minute increments and pitch their loan request. Conversation between the small business owner and the lender will ensue to see if a deal can be made. Each participant will be able to meet with up to six lenders, as well as with members of organizations that provide consulting and mentoring at no charge.

CCRI to hold open house as part of National Manufacturing Day
PROVIDENCE — The Rhode Island Manufacturers Association (RIMA) and Rhode Island Manufacturing Extension Services (RIMES) will sponsor an open house at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Knight Campus in Warwick on Friday, Oct. 4, from 1 to 3 p.m.
As part of the National Manufacturing Day effort, the program will include a tour of CCRI’s Integrated Manufacturing Center, including their CNC manufacturing and 3D modeling training facility from 1 to 2 p.m. Following the tour, attendees will hear comments from Sen. Jack Reed, Rep. David Cicilline, Gov. Lincoln Chafee and CCRI President Ray DiPasquale.
This open house will provide an opportunity for manufacturers to see the range of services CCRI can offer to support their workforce training needs. As the Rhode Island manufacturing industry training partners, RIMA and RIMES are working with the academic team at CCRI to craft the curriculum needed to provide the future manufacturing workforce with effective training and education programs that will help reduce our state’s unemployment and close the skills gap many Rhode Island manufacturers are experiencing.

BCBSRI employees volunteer during day of community service
PROVIDENCE — Close to 700 Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) employees contributed an estimated 3,400 volunteer hours Thursday during the company’s second annual statewide day of community service, Blue across Rhode Island. The event benefited 15 local nonprofits focused on improving health care quality and access, ensuring health literacy and encouraging wellness through fitness and nutrition.
“Blue across Rhode Island is just one way that we can put a spotlight on the nonprofit organizations that help keep Rhode Islanders healthy all year long — it’s a powerful day for all of us,” said Peter Andruszkiewicz, president and CEO for BCBSRI. “At BCBSRI, we often talk about being ‘in this together’ and how real change in our state’s health and wellness will come when everyone does their part—we see Blue across Rhode Island as one more way we can hold up our end of that bargain.”
During Blue across Rhode Island, BCBSRI employees provided hands-on manpower to community organizations from Charlestown to Providence, participating in projects ranging from facilities upkeep like painting and landscaping to harvesting fresh produce and assembling children’s nutrition kits. Employees even helped Habitat for Humanity build two new homes in Providence. BCBSRI also provided each organization with a $5,000 grant to be put toward purchasing supplies for the volunteer project.
The company remained open and fully operational on Thursday, and two on-site volunteer projects took place at BCBSRI headquarters to allow more employees to participate without interruption to customer service.
A.T. Cross changes its name to Costa Inc.
LINCOLN — A.T. Cross Company has announced that it will now operate under the name Costa Inc. Earlier this month, the company sold its Cross Accessory Division and the rights to the A.T. Cross name, which has historically been associated with the writing instrument business.
