NORTH STONINGTON — Connecticut State Police confirmed that one person died in a one-car crash Tuesday afternoon on Route 2, south of Main Street. The name of that person has not been released.
The car went off the road, rolled onto the driver-side and ended up wedged between two trees. The crash was reported at about 1:30 p.m. The driver was trapped in the heavily damaged car, requiring extensive extrication procedures by first-responders including firefighters from North Stonington and Old Mystic.
Although Lifestar was initially called for transport to a trauma hospital, the air ambulance was canceled when the occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.
Route 2 was closed for several hours during the incident. Emergency personnel remained on the scene for several hours after the accident. A spokesman for the state police said early this morning the name of the deceased would not be released until reports are completed on the incident.
