  • Ocean House fire quickly extinguished

Watch Hill Fire Department Chief Robert Peacock is giving a good deal of credit to the Ocean House staff members who this morning used their training in emergency situations to extinguish a small fire in a planter on an outside deck.

Peacock said by the time firefighters arrived on the scene at 8:33 a.m., the fire was out, he said.

He explained the plant area was between two 4-foot walls and it was there that the fire began outside of Room 2-7. The hotel was evacuated. Misquamicut and Westerly fire departments were on the scene providing mutual aid to Watch Hill.

Peacock said the cause of the fire is under investigation, but is believed to be accidental. He said there was a small amount of damage to the area.

The fire was out by 8:50 a.m.
