WESTERLY — Washington Trust’s 13th annual Peanut Butter Drive brought in 8,515 pounds, or 4.26 tons, of peanut butter for local Rhode Island food pantries. The bank started its annual drive in 2001 and has collected more than 104 tons of peanut butter since that time.
“Washington Trust is committed to helping Rhode Island families in need,” said Joseph J. MarcAurele, Washington Trust chairman, president and CEO. MarcAurele, who also serves as president of the board of directors of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, added, “Statistics indicate that one in six children go to bed hungry at night. We’re proud to do our part, as over the past 13 years, we’ve collected enough peanut butter to make more than three million sandwiches.”
Washington Trust donated peanut butter to the following local food banks: North Kingstown Food Pantry; the Jonnycake Centers of Peace Dale and Westerly; the Wood River Food Pantry; The Bread of Life Food Pantry; the Comprehensive Community Action Program; the Providence In-Town Churches Association; the Rhode Island Community Food Bank; the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center; and the West Bay Community Action Program.
